Modesto Police DUI Checkpoint: Friday, August 16, 2024.

Staff Report / Modestolocal.org

The Modesto Police Department will be conducting a DUI Checkpoint on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 6:30 PM to 1:30 AM at a location that will not be disclosed in advance. These checkpoints are set up based on data that shows a history of impaired-driving related crashes. The main goal of the checkpoints is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roads.

Sergeant Robert Hall from the Modesto Police Department emphasized that impaired driving poses significant risks to others on the road. It is important for measures like DUI checkpoints to reduce the number of impaired drivers, thereby enhancing overall traffic safety.

It is crucial to note that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol; prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and driving under the influence of marijuana are also considered forms of impaired driving. A first-time DUI charge can result in an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license for the driver.

Funding for this DUI Checkpoint program comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The police department reminds the public to drive sober and avoid impaired driving for the safety of everyone on the road.
