Modesto Police Department Offers Lateral Officer Opportunities
Staff Report / Modestolocal.org
The Modesto Police Department is actively seeking lateral police officers, offering a $20,000 hiring incentive and an additional $5,000 incentive for military veterans. Applicants will benefit from vacation and sick leave that accounts for their existing years of service, with 40 hours of both vacation and sick leave provided upfront on their first day.
Current base pay for officers stands at $91,499.20, with increases planned in July 2025 to $94,265.60 and July 2026 to $98,030.40. Starting base rates for officers can range from $145,695.06 to $163,896.72, depending on experience and qualifications.
Pay incentives include a Master Officer Service Incentive based on years of service, with additional bonuses for P.O.S.T. certifications, educational achievements, and a new pay step starting July 2025. For example, an officer with 10 years of service and an Advanced POST certificate, along with a Bachelor’s Degree, would earn an hourly wage of $59.58 or an annual salary of $123,918.91.
The department offers various specialized units and collateral assignments, including SWAT, K9, Traffic Safety Unit, Violent Crimes Unit, and more, allowing officers to engage meaningfully in the community.
Prospective candidates can schedule a lateral ride-along to experience the department firsthand by contacting MPDRecruitment@ModestoPD.com or calling 209.572.9523. For further details and application information, interested individuals can visit modestogov.com/301/join-our-team.
