Coburn Place Empowers Indianapolis Domestic Violence Survivors

Staff Report /

**Coburn Place Supports Domestic Violence Survivors in Indianapolis**

Indiana has the fifth highest rate of domestic violence in the United States. To combat this issue, Coburn Place, a nonprofit organization located in Indianapolis, provides support and safe housing options for survivors of domestic violence and their children in Indianapolis and Marion County.

Rachel Scott serves as the President and CEO of Coburn Place, and Celeste Evers is the Vice President of Mission Impact. Together, along with their team, they focus on empowering survivors as they navigate their paths to safety, well-being, and self-sufficiency.

In 2011, Coburn Place became the first residential program in Indiana to adopt a voluntary, trauma-informed model for addressing recovery from domestic violence. The organization recognizes that domestic violence can lead to homelessness for many survivors.

In 2022, Coburn Place was awarded a $126,500 Elevation Grant for Restoration & Resilience. This grant is part of a program that partners the City of Indianapolis with the Indianapolis Foundation. Over the course of its initiative, the Elevation Grant program has disbursed $45 million to local organizations that tackle the root causes of crime and provide support to families affected by violence.
