Auburn burglary suspect arrested; shoes recovered
Auburn, N.Y. — On March 31, 2026, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Auburn Police responded to a reported burglary in progress on Owasco Street. The suspect had entered a second-floor apartment and fled the scene on foot.
The victim later reported 10 to 15 pairs of shoes stolen, valued between $1,000 and $1,500. The victim also captured a photo of a suspicious vehicle in the area, providing a lead for investigators.
Officers identified a suspect and issued a BOLO. Within an hour, Baldwinsville Police located and stopped the vehicle, taking Matthew Rendino Jr. into custody. A search warrant led to the recovery of all stolen property.
Rendino was charged with burglary in the second degree and petit larceny, and was transported to Cayuga County Jail.
The Auburn Police Department thanked Baldwinsville Police and the Onondaga County and Cayuga County 911 Center for their assistance in this case.
