**Rochester Contemporary Art Center Features Diverse Artists in "Highlighting the Works in Queering Democracy"**

The Rochester Contemporary Art Center is currently showcasing an exhibition titled "Highlighting the Works in Queering Democracy."

Among the featured artists is Rich Harrington from Binghamton, NY. Harrington holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Syracuse University and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the Maryland Institute, College of Art. His artwork, “Look-Say,” draws inspiration from flash cards in “The Rainbow Dictionary” from circa 1947. The imagery within the artwork is straightforward, but the associated words have connections to anti-gay slurs, many of which Harrington encountered during his elementary school years. You can follow his work on Instagram @rich.s.harrington.

Another artist, Ro Robertson, is a nonbinary multimedia artist originally from Philadelphia, now residing in Lumberton, NJ. Robertson’s ceramic sculpture, titled “The Clown Car,” is modeled after a Volkswagen Beetle and features Republican politicians recognized for exploiting LGBTQ+ rights. More of Robertson's work can be found on Instagram @r_r_artsy.

Additionally, Sarah Schneiderman, known for her assemblage art that combines activism with artistic expression, is also part of the exhibition. Schneiderman's recent works celebrate pioneering figures in government, using non-recyclable trash and repurposed materials. This series honors the gender non-conforming and non-binary individuals elected to government roles in 2020 and 2021, including Geo Soctomah Neptune, the first trans, non-binary, and Two-Spirit person elected in Maine; Joshua Query, the first openly gender non-conforming person in the New Hampshire House of Representatives; and Mauree Turner, the first non-binary and Muslim member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Follow Schneiderman on Instagram @sarah.schneiderman.

The exhibition highlights a range of perspectives in contemporary art and activism, promoting dialogue on the intersection of art, identity, and social justice. The Rochester Contemporary Art Center continues to be a platform for diverse voices in the art community.
