Cayuga County Sheriff's Office April 2026 Report Highlights Outreach, Training and Statistics

Community Outreach and Highlights

Lieutenant Franklin and Sheriff Schenck visited Church Street Apartments in Port Byron during an Easter Egg Hunt and distributed donated homemade quilts provided by the Cayuga Lake Quilt Guild.

Our School Resource Officers joined staff from area schools at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES for a three-day training course in the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention System for Schools (TCIS), developed by Cornell University. The program teaches trauma-sensitive interventions to improve student coping strategies and reduce high-risk interventions.

Thanks to Friends of Emerson Park for including the Sheriff’s Office in their East Egg Hunt at the park.

Huck’s Homemade Bracelets received online recognition. Huck, a young boy who makes bracelets for first responders and military members, met Deputy Raftis and received a patch from the Sheriff’s Office.

Identification Officer Brian Kelly and Auburn Police Department Officer Paul Flickner were recognized with a Life Saving Award at the CNY Chiefs of Police Awards Banquet in Syracuse.

The Sheriff's Office partnered with the Cayuga County Mental Health Department to provide Mental Health Crisis Intervention Officer Training. Detective Sergeant Nicole Stewart and Michelle Fiorelli facilitated the 40-hour course.

Deputy Wojcikowski, Deputy Cowen, and Sergeant Burger joined others at Applebee’s in Auburn to support Special Olympics. The Law and Orders fundraiser raised money for local athletes.

“Share the Road” reminders encouraged drivers to be aware of slow-moving vehicles such as tractors, trucks, farm equipment, horse-drawn buggies, and bicycles, highlighting the need to give these roadway users space to prevent crashes.
