Detectives from the Modesto Police Department have arrested 43-year-old Edward McCullen in connection with the shooting death of Jose Valdez, a 43-year-old man from Modesto. The incident took place in the parking lot of Citi Auto Sales on McHenry Avenue on September 6, 2024, with officers responding to a report of a shooting just after midnight. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Modesto Police Department's Investigative Services Division conducted a thorough investigation, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of McCullen on charges including weapons violations and homicide. The SWAT team took him into custody in central Modesto just before 5 PM on the same day.

Sgt. Sean Martin of the Violent Crimes Unit commended the team's efforts in bringing justice to victims of violent crimes, expressing satisfaction in providing closure to the victim's family. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Detective Bolinger at 209-342-9162.
