**Modesto Police Department Awarded $560,000 Grant for Traffic Safety Initiatives**

Modesto, California – The Modesto Police Department has been awarded a $560,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to enhance its traffic enforcement and education programs. This funding aims to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on the roads and will be utilized through September 2025.

Sergeant Robert Hall of the Modesto Police Department expressed appreciation for the grant, highlighting its potential to bolster traffic enforcement efforts and improve safety for all road users. The grant will fund various initiatives targeting high-risk driving behaviors, including:

- DUI checkpoints and patrols to apprehend suspected impaired drivers.

- High-visibility operations focused on enforcing California’s hands-free cell phone law to combat distracted driving.

- Enforcement actions aimed at protecting cyclists and pedestrians from dangerous driving practices.

- Efforts to address violations that commonly lead to traffic accidents, such as speeding, failure to yield, and traffic signal infractions.

- Community outreach presentations on traffic safety topics, including distracted and impaired driving, speeding, and safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

- Collaborative enforcement activities with neighboring law enforcement agencies.

- Training and recertification for officers in crucial areas such as Standard Field Sobriety Testing and impaired driving recognition.

The grant funding is part of a campaign supported by the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
